This past week I attended an engineering event at ASU Tempe. The event was intended for engineering students to give them an idea of what it's like to be an ASU student. During the event they gave a tour of the campus that concluded with a visit to the health and fitness center where they hosted and EPICS event. In this event, students currently in the EPICS program, intended for research, at ASU were giving out presentations about their current research projects. There was a wealth of different projects that ranged from material science to the neurons in the brain. I decided to attend this event because since I am still looking for a research project to work on, I thought that by attending I would be able to gather some ideas for a potential project. Coming out of the event, I was able to brainstorm some ideas, one of them was creating a model for the way people walk. How this could be important is that we all think that we walk straight, however, most of us walk in certain motion...
Hello everyone. This past Friday I attended the ASU open house mixer at ASU west. It was a really neat experience as I got to meet some of the ASU professors as well as some of the STRAIN scholars from other community colleges. I was able to meet Dr. Feng Wang, the professor in charge of the research project that deals with twitter and the trends that using such social media has on people's daily lives. She told how in the past she has worked with applied math majors along with computer science majors towards carrying out her projects. She told me to contact her, which I did, and we have arranged a time to meet and further discuss the possibility of me collaborating with her. I'm really looking forward to working with her, I think that it will be a good experience.
Hello everyone. I am searching for more possible projects to work on. Dr. Tuohy forwarded some information about a research project that sounds really interesting. I believe it's part of NASA. It mentions taking a set of classes online and the opportunity to collaborate with professionals in the field. I've been a fan of NASA since I was a kid, I think it would be cool to participate in a project that they are working on. I think that it will also be a good opportunity to learn something new.
Hello everyone. I wanted to make this post because I heard from Dr. Tuohy about a project at ASU. There is a professor that is running a study about researching how social media reflects and influences our daily lives. The project is designed to be able to create a system that will describe and be able to predict certain interests in social events and how this is spread on social media, specifically twitter. The program requires the people involved in research to know computer languages to develop algorithms. While I don’t know any coding languages, the project still seems interesting and I think that I would like to participate in it.
