Math Project Progress

This week I have been working with Lianyue on getting her ready to start the project. She is currently reading some more papers about the background behind fluid dynamics. At the moment I am working on preparing some MATLAB exercises for her to practice coding and learn MATLAB; upon completion of the exercises we will be able to continue my project with fluid dynamics. Also, I am preparing some mini math lessons to teach her some of the math concepts that she will need as she learns more about my project; this involves partial derivatives, runge kutta methods of integration and eigen values and vectors to name a few. We are excited to work on this project.

Hello everyone. This past Friday I attended the ASU open house mixer at ASU west. It was a really neat experience as I got to meet some of the ASU professors as well as some of the STRAIN scholars from other community colleges. I was able to meet Dr. Feng Wang, the professor in charge of the research project that deals with twitter and the trends that using such social media has on people's daily lives. She told how in the past she has worked with applied math majors along with computer science majors towards carrying out her projects. She told me to contact her, which I did, and we have arranged a time to meet and further discuss the possibility of me collaborating with her. I'm really looking forward to working with her, I think that it will be a good experience.

S-STEM Introduction and Project

Hello, my name is Ricardo. As one of the S-STEM Scholar students, I am very happy to be a part of this group. I am currently searching for opportunities as to what to do a research project on with an emphasis in applied mathematics. I have spoken with one of the professors at Glendale Community College in order to assist me with brainstorming ideas for this project. We talked about several areas where mathematics can be applied to, such as computing and number theory. I happen to find these two fields of particular interest. I've always been fascinating with what computers can do, and I think that it would be cool to learn about the mathematics that goes behind the programming to make them work. As far as number theory goes, I find it really cool! Even though at this moment I don't know much about it, nonetheless, I find it really interesting and wouldn't mind doing research to learn more about it.
